Privacy Policy

1. Scope and overview

This Privacy Policy applies to the Game Controller application for iPhone and iPad, this website, and support communications related to the application (together, the "Service"). "Game Controller" identifies the application; "we," "us," and "our" refer to the independent application provider responsible for the Service.

Game Controller is a remote control utility for compatible Roku streaming players and Roku TVs. It can discover a device on the same Wi-Fi network, show information reported by that device, send remote commands, display installed channels, save favorites, and provide touchpad and game-control layouts.

This Policy does not govern Roku, Apple, Google, streaming services, channel publishers, network providers, or other third parties. Their processing is governed by their own policies.

2. Information the app handles

Local Roku device information

When you search for or connect to a Roku, the app may process a local IP address, device name, model, serial or device identifier exposed by Roku, supported capabilities, software version, active application information, installed channel names and identifiers, and channel icons. Button presses, touch gestures, and game-control movement are converted into commands sent to the device you selected.

This information is processed to provide the feature you request. We do not transmit your local Roku device list, installed channel list, favorites, or command history to servers operated by us.

Settings and product interaction

The app may process your selected remote layout, last connected device, manually entered local IP address, channel favorites, haptic setting, touchpad sensitivity, joystick layout, repeat behavior, privacy agreement version, consent state, and local advertising counters. These values help restore the interface and operate features consistently.

Support information

If you use the Feedback option, your mail app may create a message that you choose to send. We may then receive your email address and anything you include, such as the issue description, app version, device model, screenshots, or attachments. Do not send passwords, payment details, or sensitive personal information unless it is necessary for your request.

Information not required for core remote control

The app does not require an account, your contacts, photos, precise GPS location, health information, microphone recordings, camera access, or payment credentials for its current remote-control features.

3. Local network access

The app requests the iOS Local Network permission to discover and communicate with compatible Roku devices on the same network. Discovery may use SSDP or related local discovery mechanisms. Remote and channel requests use Roku's External Control Protocol or other interfaces made available by the device.

Commands are sent directly to the local IP address of the Roku you choose. Local network access does not grant Game Controller access to files stored on the Roku, your streaming service passwords, or the private content of third-party channels.

You can revoke Local Network access in iOS Settings under Privacy & Security. If access is disabled, discovery, connection, channel loading, and remote control will stop working. Network isolation, guest Wi-Fi, VPN settings, router rules, Roku software, and Roku's "Control by mobile apps" setting can also affect availability.

4. Information stored on your device

The app uses its private iOS storage for selected device details, a last-known local IP address, favorite channel identifiers, interface preferences, privacy acknowledgement, consent records, and advertising request counters. Channel artwork may be cached temporarily to reduce repeated network requests.

Other people with access to your unlocked iPhone or iPad may see the connected device name, installed channel list, favorites, and settings displayed in the app. Apple may include app data in a device or iCloud backup according to your Apple settings. Apple controls that backup processing.

5. Advertising, consent, and tracking

The app uses Google Mobile Ads to request and display banner, interstitial, and app-open advertisements. It uses Google's User Messaging Platform (UMP) to request or manage privacy consent where required. Depending on your location, consent choices, device settings, and the ad served, Google and advertising partners may process:

Where Apple's App Tracking Transparency framework applies, the app requests permission before allowing access to data used to track you across apps or websites owned by other companies. Refusing permission does not remove advertising. It limits access to the advertising identifier and may result in contextual or less personalized ads.

For more information, review Google's Privacy Policy, advertising technologies information, and Mobile Ads SDK data disclosure.

6. How information is used

Information is processed to:

Where applicable law requires a legal basis, processing may rely on performing the service you request, your consent, compliance with legal obligations, or legitimate interests such as security, support, fraud prevention, and maintaining an advertising-supported application. You may withdraw consent where processing relies on consent.

7. Sharing and service providers

We do not sell your local Roku device list, favorite channels, or remote commands. Information may be processed or disclosed in these limited circumstances:

8. Retention and deletion

Selected device details, favorites, preferences, consent records, and advertising counters remain in the app's private storage until you change them, erase app data, or uninstall the app, subject to any Apple-managed backup you choose to keep.

We do not retain your local Roku information on servers operated by us. Support messages may be kept only as long as reasonably needed to answer the request, troubleshoot recurring issues, prevent abuse, resolve disputes, or meet legal obligations. You may request earlier deletion, subject to legal exceptions.

Google and Apple control the retention of information processed through their services. See Google's retention documentation and Apple's Privacy Policy. Because the app does not create user accounts, there is no account with us to delete.

9. Your choices and privacy rights

You can manage information and permissions by:

Depending on where you live, you may have rights to request access, correction, deletion, portability, restriction, objection, withdrawal of consent, or an appeal, and you may complain to a data protection authority. We do not sell personal information for money. Some personalized advertising may be considered targeted advertising, sharing, or a sale under local definitions; use the controls described above to limit it.

Privacy requests can be initiated through the Feedback option in Game Controller Settings. Since we do not maintain accounts or a server-side Roku profile, we may be unable to identify information that exists only on your device.

10. Children's privacy

Game Controller is intended for a general audience and is not directed to children under 13 or the minimum age required by local law. We do not knowingly request personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided personal information through support, contact us through the Feedback option so the information can be reviewed and deleted where appropriate.

Advertising is requested subject to the app's age rating, consent state, platform settings, and applicable child-protection requirements.

11. Security and international processing

We use reasonable administrative and technical measures appropriate to the Service. Game Controller relies on iOS sandboxing for local storage and communicates with the Roku on the network you choose. You are responsible for securing your Wi-Fi network, iPhone or iPad, and Roku settings. No storage or transmission method is completely secure.

Google, Apple, email providers, and website hosting providers may process information in countries other than your own. Those providers are responsible for applicable transfer safeguards under their terms and privacy policies.

This website does not intentionally use advertising or analytics cookies. A hosting provider may process IP address, browser type, timestamps, and error information in basic access logs to deliver and secure the site.

12. Changes and contact

We may update this Policy when features, service providers, laws, or App Store requirements change. The date at the top will be revised. Material changes may also be communicated in the app or App Store listing where appropriate.

For privacy questions, complaints, or requests, use Settings > Feedback inside Game Controller. The Feedback option opens your email application so you can decide what information to send. We aim to respond within the period required by applicable law.
